A rematch…
The Pride of Baltimore. The Year is 1812.
The British repulsed the Americans, and then they took bits of Maine and burned Buffalo. And later, the British burned Washington, D.C., sending President James Madison fleeing to Virginia.
But then the British tried to “clean out that nest of pirates” in Baltimore, and were stopped at Fort McHenry. Out of this came the national anthem, pride of nationhood, and this story of underdog overcoming adversity. The Pride’s forebears were a symbol of the swift defeating the mighty, the free and daring tweaking the nose of the staid and pompous.America has maintained this proud self-image ever since.
On June 12th, 2010 there will be a rematch, and again, the swift shall defeat the mighty, the free and daring will tweak the nose of the staid and pompous.
What better place to enjoy a British defeat than in the very same harbor that was key in defeating them in 1812.
Come on You Yanks!
